Amish Friendly Bread

  1. Don't use a metal spoon
  2. Don't refrigerate
  3. Be sure to transfer to a larger container
Day 1
Do nothing the day you receive the starter
Day 2,3,4
Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 5
Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, and stir
Day 6,7,8,9
Stir with a wooden spoon
Day 10
Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk, and stir

Then pour into 3 containers (1 cup each) and give to 3 friends with these instructions.

To remaining starter add:

  • 2/3 cup oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped apples (optional)
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)

    Pour into 2 greased and sugared loaf pans
    Bake for 50-60 minutes at 350 F

    Checkoff each day:

    1. Day 1 do nothing
    2. Day 2 stir
    3. Day 3 stir
    4. Day 4 stir
    5. Day 5 add
    6. Day 6 stir
    7. Day 7 stir
    8. Day 8 stir
    9. Day 9 stir
    10. Day 10 add
