NATIONAL DANCES OF IRELAND

This directory contains an ABC transcription of the tunes in the dance-instruction book published by G. Schirmer Inc. in New York in 1925. This book contains instructions for 25 dances in square, circle and longways formations. It has apparently been out of print for a long time, but a friend had a copy. Some day I should also type in the dance descriptions, but that's a lot more work. Maybe I'll try to find an Irish dance instructor to do that part.

The editor made piano arrangements of the tunes, but these don't translate as easily to ABC notation, so I've taken the liberty of converting them to conventional fake-book form.

Note that, except for the Donegal Jig medley, all the tunes here are traditional. The Donegal Jig medley is three tunes attributed to Arthur Darley, but the book has no information on him.

If you don't have ABC software, you might like to try a tool of mine that returns the tunes in various formats: CLICK HERE. This will return the page you're looking at now, but the ABC files will be expanded to show all the tunes, and each tune will have a line of links to return it in a number of different formats.
