The Long and Short of It
4x32 Strathspey + 4x32 Reel

Bruce writes:

I am rather proud of a medley I wrote for the (New Year's Day 2002) wedding of two dancers here in the San Francisco Bay Area, David Newitt and Heather MacKay.

It is replete with symbolism:

1-8 1s lead down the middle and back to face first corners WHILE the 2s cast off for 4 bars and turn inwards to dance back to the top. As much as possible they form a line of four across the dance.
-- Thus, the wedding march down the aisle with the best man and maid of honor
9-14 Hello and goodbye setting
-- Thus, the reception of the guests
15-16 1s turn by right into promenade and 3s and 4s pdB in
17-24 Promenade for 1s 3s and 4s
-- Thus, the wedding party
25-30 1s cast and 4s cross up to dance 3/4 figure 8 round standing 3s
31-32 1s cross into 4th place while 4s cast into 3rd place while 3s step up.
-- Thus, the newlyweds depart.
Each couple dances the strathspey and then each couple dances the same figures in reel time. Unfortunately there appears to be no proper recorded music available, but with live music it was rather a hit, I thought.
