On bars 15-16, 1st couple set advancing to pass each other by the left shoulder and end back-to-back in the middle of the set, 1st woman facing up and 1st man facing down. 17-20 1st woman with 2nd couple, 1st man with 3rd couple dance right hands across. 21-24 1st couple dance half reels of 3 on the sides their two corners, passing 1st corner right shoulder to begin. At the end of the half reel, 1C pass each other by the right shoulder in the center of the set to flow into . . . 25-28 1st man with 3rd couple (now at the top) and 1st woman with 2nd couple (now in 3rd place) dance left hands across. 29-32 1st couple dance half reels of 3 on the sides with their two corners, passing 1st corner person (who is in 2nd corner's position) left shoulder to begin. At the end of the half reel, 1st couple pass each other left shoulder to end on own sides in 2nd place. Reel: 1-32 Repeat bars 1-32 of the strathspey from 2nd place in reel time. 1st couple finishes in 3rd place and then steps down to the bottom of the set as a new top couple begins the strathspey. NOTE: At the end of each of the hands across figures (bars 17-20 and bars 25-28), 1st couple will already by holding hands with their corner. They may retain hands with the corner person momentarily as they flow into the half reels. Note on the tune: The tune Eilean Dubh is used both in strathspey time and in reel time. The reel-time version has a somewhat "hornpipey" feel to it. The tune has not been recorded, but if anyone is interested in getting a copy of it, contact Sherry Ladig by e-mail at ladig-dunquin:tcinternet.net.
