Asked at forums.androidcentral.com 2014-11-30: Just replaced my dying HTC G1 with a new HTC ONE M8, found the settings that make me a "developer" (whatever that might mean ;-), but I've had problems finding one important thing that the G1 had: A normal "terminal" app that lets me use it as on ordinary unix/linux box, type "cd", "ls", "vi", and the other usual commands. Googling doesn't help. Asking about obvious things like "HTC ONE terminal" gets me lots of stuff on rooting the gadget, resetting it to factory, etc., which might all be useful and interesting, but doesn't help me install a terminal app. Looking around in app sources finds similar things, but nothing that looks like a terminal window. I'm guessing that there is such a thing that works on the HTC One. Why does searching for it turn up all these other things, but nothing that's a working terminal app? With the G1, the same keywords turn up lists of appropriate apps. Anyone know how I might go about finding such a thing for my new gadget? (Asking about "HTC ONE terminal" at forums.androidcentral.com led me to this forum, which illustrates the problem. Terminals aren't just tools for rooting computers, so why didn't I find what I was looking for here? ;-) ------ A day later, several partial answers had included the clue that "play.google.com" was the "store" URL. There were several icons on my phone that led to sub-sites with specialties like games, movies and music, but none that led to the basic site.
