Roaring Jelly

How to Join the Band

Begun in a kitchen as a session band in 1970, Roaring Jelly continues to invite new members. Roaring Jelly is a great place for beginning to advanced musicians to develop skill on their instruments, develop group playing skills, and expand their repertoire of tunes. If you know some contradance tunes, want to learn more, and can make it to most rehearsals and dances, this might be the band for you.

Some of the instruments that have been played in the Band are Accordion, Banjo, Banjo-Uke, Bass (Upright Acoustic), Bouzouki, Cello, Clarinet, Concertina, Fiddle, Fife, Flute, French Horn, Guitar, Hammered Dulcimer, Mandolin, Piano, Recorder, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba, Viola, Violin and Whistles.

Only Band members play at Dances, however our practices are open for anyone to 'sit-in' with us to decide whether or not to join the Band. Practices are 8-10 pm, usually on second and fourth Tuesdays, but we sometimes practice on other dates for various reasons. Check the Rehearsal schedule for actual times.

Members pay a modest season dues to help support our Lexington dance and other Band expenses, such as our sound system and additions to the Tune Book. Band members may, if they wish, purchase a copy of our Tunebook for the cost of reproduction.
