Slow Scottish Jan tunes for 2026-08-21t The Ramshaw's house in Concord MA USA


Sixteen of us shared some fine tunes last night (see  below),  with  lots  of
jigs  and reels and a few marches and Strathspeys, but not as many waltzes or
slow airs as one might expect at a Slow Jam.  Less common tunes included:

- Catchin' Rabbits, a reel by Scottish fiddler Ian Powrie, who is familiar to
- Scottish   dancers   primarily   for  moving  from  the  Scottish  town  of
- Auchterarder down to Australia, a move immortalized in  a  popular  country
- dance.

- Mrs.  McPherson of Cluny, a jig by Joseph Lowe (1791-1866) that is used for
- the popular dance "Wild Geese".

- Seann Truibhas Uilleachain (Sean's old trousers), a slow reel  in  Dm  that
- cellist Abby Newton taught back at Boston Harbor,

- Ciaran Tourish, a Cape Breton  reel  with  an  A  part  written  by  Dougie
- MacDonald  and  a  B  part by Jerry Holland in honor of the Donegal fiddler
- with that name from the bands Altan and De Dannan.

- Dappled Waters, an air written by Scottish fiddler Paul Anderson  to  honor
- Alex and Charles' wedding.

One person suggested "Tune for Lukas", a new-to-us air that  Kevin  Henderson
wrote  for his son, so I've added it to our collection here, in case you want
to look through it before our next session..

Schedule-wise, since the NH Scottish Games at  Loon  Mountain  will  be  Sept
18-20, we're aiming for the following weekend, Friday Sept. 25, at 7:30. Hope
